Meghalaya Court Reserves Order on Bail Plea in Honeymoon Murder Case

PTI, April 30, 2026, Shillong: A court in Meghalaya on Wednesday reserved its order on the bail plea filed by Raj Kushwaha, one of the key accused in the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi in the northeastern state last year.

Kushwaha is the alleged boyfriend of Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam, another accused who was granted bail on Tuesday by the district and sessions court of Meghalaya's East Khasi district.

Raghuvanshi went missing on May 23 last year during the couple’s honeymoon, and his mutilated body was found on June 2 from a deep gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district.

Sonam and several others, including her alleged boyfriend, were arrested in the case.

Counsel for Kushwaha, P. Yobin, said the court has reserved its order, and a decision is expected soon.

"The court has reserved its order. A decision is expected soon. Whatever we had to place, we have placed before the court," counsel for Kushwaha, P. Yobin, told PTI.

He said he has also been approached by the families of all four accused persons in the case.

"We are waiting for the order in Raj's case first, and very soon bail applications for the remaining three will be filed," he added.

According to police, Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi married Sonam on May 11, 2025, in Indore, and the couple left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20.

The autopsy report of Raja Raghuvanshi indicated that he was hit twice with a sharp object on his head.

Sonam surrendered on June 8 before the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district.

In September last year, the Meghalaya Police submitted a 790-page charge sheet, naming eight people, including his wife Sonam and her alleged boyfriend, as the accused
