Manipur Government Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Human Rights


PTI, April 30, 2026, Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the rights of all citizens, particularly women, youth and children.

Singh made the remarks after a meeting with National Human Rights Commission member Vijaya Bharathi Sayani at the CM secretariat.

In a social media post, Singh said, "Called on by Smt. Vijaya Bharathi Sayani, Hon'ble Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), at the Secretariat today. We held a comprehensive discussion on the prevailing human rights situation in Manipur in the context of the unrest affecting the state."

Singh asserted that instances of human rights violations have been taken cognisance of, and the government remains firmly committed to ensuring the protection of human rights for all citizens.

He added, "Concerted measures are being explored and strengthened to safeguard dignity, justice, and security across the state. The government reiterates its resolve to uphold constitutional values and work towards restoring peace, stability, and public confidence."

Meanwhile, rights groups in the state have alleged incidents of human rights violations by security forces during protest rallies in the valley districts.
