Jhargram’s ‘jhalmuri’ seller receives death threat

MP, May 23, 2026, Kolkata: Vikram Shaw, the ‘jhalmuri’ seller who had served Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Bengal’s popular snack item during the Assembly elections campaign in Jhargram, has allegedly received death threats from unknown callers on his mobile phone who are claiming to be from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Though he has been provided with police security, Shaw reportedly claimed that he is under tremendous pressure and fear as his life is in danger.

According to sources, Shaw recently received a video call through which unknown persons brandished weapons and threatened to hurl bombs at him.

Following that, he received several calls and messages on WhatsApp where he was threatened repeatedly.

Shaw informed that immediately after the incident, he reported it to the police, following which he was provided with security, claimed the jhalmuri seller.

The Superintendent of Police, Jhargram, Manav Singla, said, “He has received WhatsApp messages. We have initiated an inquiry. So far, a GDE (General Diary Entry) has been made.”

It may be mentioned that on April 19, during the election campaign, Modi, after addressing a rally, approached Shaw’s shop and bought jhalmuri paying Rs 10. The video containing Modi’s interaction with Shaw had gone viral on social media.
