Court Rejects Bail Plea in Zubeen Garg Death Case
The court delivered its decision after earlier reserving the order following a two-day hearing on the bail application.
The rejection of the bail plea is being seen as an important development in the high-profile case, which has remained under public attention since the investigation began. Shyamkanu Mahanta had approached the court seeking bail while the trial and legal proceedings in the case continue.
During the hearings, his legal team argued for his release and requested the court to grant him bail. However, the prosecution strongly opposed the plea and submitted written objections before the court. Prosecutors argued against granting bail and urged the court to keep the accused in custody as the investigation and proceedings continue.
The fast-track court had been hearing the matter regularly because of the seriousness of the case and the public attention surrounding it.
After hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution sides during the hearings held over the past few days, the court reserved its order and fixed April 30 for the pronouncement of the verdict.
The case related to the death of Zubeen Garg has attracted widespread public attention across Assam and has led to repeated demands for a detailed and fair investigation.
Following the investigation carried out by the Special Investigation Team, several accused persons were charge-sheeted in connection with the case, including Shyamkanu Mahanta.
