CM Suvendu Adhikari to Chair Second Cabinet Meeting Today

MP, May 18, 2026, Kolkata : Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will chair the second Cabinet meeting of the newly formed state government on Monday, where key decisions on Dearness Allowance (DA), implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, institutional corruption and women’s safety, including developments related to the RG Kar case, are expected to be discussed.

After the first Cabinet meeting held last Monday, Adhikari had said that issues concerning the RG Kar incident, atrocities against women, institutional corruption and the pay commission would be taken up at the next meeting.

Several policy matters are also likely to figure in the discussions.

State government employees have long been demanding DA at par with Central government staff. The matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court.

Following the change in government, employees are hopeful that the new administration may announce DA in line with Central rates.

The government is also likely to consider formation of the Seventh Pay Commission, a move that could pave the way for revision of salaries of state government employees.

Earlier in the day, Adhikari will felicitate toppers of Class X and XII examinations from the state board, state council, ICSE, ISC, CBSE and Madrasah boards at a programme at Nabanna Sabhaghar.

Around 221 candidates are expected to attend the event, while two toppers currently abroad will not be able to participate.

On Saturday night, Adhikari visited Nandigram in East Midnapore for the first time since taking oath as Chief Minister.

He attended a meeting at the party office in Reyapara in the presence of MP Soumendu Adhikari, MLAs from the district and senior district officials.

The meeting focused on organisational activities, the district’s development roadmap and preliminary preparations for the by-election in the Nandigram Assembly constituency.
