TMC Alleges Misconduct by Central Forces, Abhishek Banerjee Calls Them “BJP’s Private Army”

MP, April 30, 2026, Kolkata : Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday levelled serious allegations against Central forces, with its national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee describing them as the BJP’s “private army” and linking their alleged “manhandling” to the death of an elderly man in Howrah’s Udaynarayanpur.

In a post on X, Banerjee alleged that Central forces manhandled the victim as his son was helping him walk into a polling booth. He also shared a video showing the body and grieving family members. According to him, the forces were “terrorising” voters through assault and intimidation.

Drawing a parallel with the Sitalkuchi firing, Banerjee termed the Udaynarayanpur episode “cold-blooded, merciless violence against unarmed civilians.” He warned that those responsible would be held accountable under the law, adding that their “reign of terror will end in total ruin”.

“Central Forces under Amit Shah have become BJP’s private army,” Banerjee alleged, claiming an elderly voter collapsed after being pushed and was later declared brought dead at Amta Hospital.

He further accused Central forces of widespread misconduct, including slapping women, assaulting the elderly and attacking children, calling it a continuation of the “Sitalkuchi mentality.”

The TMC alleged that Central forces acted as BJP agents during the 2026 Assembly elections, intimidating voters and engaging in violence, including firing during polling. The party demanded strict action against personnel and claimed that “observers from outside” were deployed to target its workers.

Tensions also flared in the Falta Assembly constituency, where a CRPF search operation led by police observer IPS Ajay Pal Sharma triggered protests outside the office of TMC candidate Jahangir Khan, who accused the forces of intimidation.

In a separate post, the ruling party alleged that Central forces “ran riot” across the state. It cited an incident in Satgachia, claiming even a two-year-old child was not spared, and termed the situation “political terror” by “thugs in uniform.”
