Supreme Court Allows Objections in West Bengal Dearness Allowance Case; Next Hearing on May 6

MP, April 16, 2026, Kolkata: The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed parties in the West Bengal dearness allowance (DA) case to file objections against the state’s affidavit on arrears, scheduling the next hearing for May 6, shortly after the Assembly election results.

The state, represented by Kapil Sibal, informed the court that partial DA payments had begun, while seeking more time to release further instalments due to elections and financial constraints. Employee unions contested the claim, alleging delays and uneven disbursal of dues.

The court noted that the payment process had started and directed formal objections, with a committee meeting set for April 27.
