PM Modi gives “one last chance” to “Trinamool goons” to surrender to police by April 29

PTI, KOLKATA, APRIL 19, 2026 : Addressing an election rally near Barjora in the Bankura district of West Bengal on Sunday morning in support of BJP candidates in the district for the assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave “one last chance to the goons of the Trinamool Congress, the syndicate mafia and the criminals to surrender before the nearest police stations before April 29.” After May 4, there would be no mercy and they would be taken into custody, he warned.

"Those who used to terrify the people of West Bengal until now were themselves terrified by the roar of the Bengal tiger,” he said. “This Bengal tiger is none other than the people of the state," he said. The Prime Minister also warned the sand mafia and the coal mafia active in the Bankura district that their activities would be brought to an end after the formation of the BJP government in West Bengal.

Describing the district of Bankura as a centre of culture and handicrafts, he said the next BJP government would take steps to protect the traditional handicrafts of the district like Baluchari saree and terracotta crafts. Under the ‘PM Viswakarma Yojana,’ craftsmen in the district would get financial assistance from the Centre to set up their business, he said. Accusing the Trinamool government of not allowing this Central scheme to be implemented in the district, he said in neighbouring Odisha, 700,000 craftsmen had applied for assistance under the scheme and 25,000 of them were already receiving assistance, while in West Bengal, while 800,000 applications had been made, only one beneficiary was getting assistance under the scheme.

He mentioned the plight of the potato farmers in the district because of the plummeting price of potatoes and the inability of the Trinamool government to provide support prices for their products. Because of the lack of opportunities of jobs and livelihood, youths of the district now had to travel to other states in search of jobs.

In an effort to win over the support of women voters, who were present in large numbers in the meeting, the Prime Minister mentioned different Central schemes to extend financial assistance to women. The Trinamool government was not allowing these schemes to be implemented in the state. “With a BJP Chief Minister and a BJP Prime Minister, we can work together for the uplift of the people of the state,” he said, extolling the virtues of a “double engine government.” The Prime Minister also mentioned about the “anti-tribal” attitude of the Trinamool Congress government; he said the Trinamool had even opposed Droupadi Murmu as the candidate for the post of President and had behaved with the President in an insulting manner when she had visited Siliguri earlier this year.

Addressing a rally in Purulia, the Prime Minister said the Santali language is being humiliated while a record budget had been allocated for madrasa education. “This is nothing but appeasement," Prime Minister Modi said.

The Trinamool regime had left districts with significant tribal population, such as Purulia, Bankura and Jhargram, deprived of roads, drinking water, jobs and basic amenities, he said.

Projecting the BJP as the natural political choice of the tribal belt, Modi accused the ruling party of grabbing tribal land through local syndicates.

Addressing a poll rally in Midnapore, PM Modi said the Mamata Banerjee government had presided over widespread corruption in teacher recruitment, government jobs, the mid-day meal scheme, MGNREGA works and relief funds meant for cyclone-hit people. "In 15 years, Trinamool has earned a PhD in looting," the PM asserted. The PM also said that a BJP government in West Bengal would implement the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission. "I want to assure all government employees that once the BJP comes to power, you will get the benefits of the Seventh Pay Commission," he said.

"The path that the Trinamool is treading is very dangerous. The Trinamool wants to form a government of infiltrators and for infiltrators. A government that will protect only the religion of infiltrators, the language of infiltrators and the customs of infiltrators, rather than those of the people of Bengal," he said, addressing a rally in Jhargram.

Modi accused the Trinamool of ignoring people's problems and of presiding over a system of corruption and extortion. "If one has to build a house, one has to depend on Trinamool's syndicate. Trinamool MPs and MLAs are least bothered about your problems. They are busy filling their pockets," he alleged. The PM also alleged that TMC leaders were illegally occupying tribal land in several parts of the state. Referring to complaints of erratic power supply in parts of Jhargram, he said people remained in darkness while Trinamool leaders prospered.
