Mamata Banerjee likely to hold election rally in Siliguri on Poila Boishakh

Sanchita Aich Bag, MP, April 11, 2026, Siliguri : Mamata Banerjee, Chairperson of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), is likely to visit Siliguri on April 15 on the occasion of Bengali New Year (Poila Boishakh).

During her visit, she is expected to hold a rally in support of the party’s Siliguri Assembly candidate Gautam Deb.

According to initial plans, Banerjee is also likely to attend a cultural programme at Baghajatin Park to mark the Bengali New Year celebrations. However, her final schedule is yet to be officially confirmed.

Despite this, party leaders and workers have already begun preparations for the proposed programme.

“Our party supremo will come to Siliguri on April 15 and she will hold a rally. She has always supported me and shown her affection. I am grateful that she has chosen me as the candidate. I am confident that Mamata Banerjee will become the Chief Minister of West Bengal for the fourth time,” said Gautam Deb.

As per preliminary information, the rally is expected to begin from Mallaguri and proceed up to Hashmi Chowk, with Banerjee likely to lead the march. The rally is anticipated to witness a massive turnout.

Police are planning tight security arrangements across the route. Several other TMC candidates from other constituencies are also expected to participate in the rally, including Ranjan Shil Sharma from Dabgram-Fulbari, Shankar Malakar from Matigara-Naxalbari, and Reena Toppo Ekka from Phansidewa.

Party workers are gearing up to make the rally vibrant, with flags, banners, cut-outs, and portraits of candidates expected to line the route.

Given that the procession will pass through Hill Cart Road—one of the busiest arterial roads in Siliguri—strict traffic regulations are likely to be enforced. Heavy vehicles may be diverted via Matigara and Noukaghat, while one-way traffic movement is expected during the rally hours.

A temporary stage is also likely to be set up at Hashmi Chowk.

Notably, Banerjee had earlier addressed two public meetings near Siliguri on March 25, campaigning in support of party candidates in the Dabgram-Fulbari and Matigara-Naxalbari constituencies.
