Grenade Attack Reported at Punjab BJP Office in Chandigarh

TTI, Apr 01, 2026, Chandigarh : A grenade attack hit the BJP office in Chandigarh’s Sector 37 on Wednesday evening, sparking security concerns. The low-intensity blast occurred around 5 pm in the parking area, with several BJP leaders, including state media spokesperson Vineet Joshi, inside the office.

The grenade was intended for the office but landed in a sand stack nearby. Police teams, including BSF personnel, quickly secured the area. Senior officers like SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and IG Pushpendra Kumar arrived to assess the situation.

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) team collected evidence, including grenade splinters, and Bomb Detection Squad sanitised the spot with sniffer dogs. An Activa scooter and a sedan car were damaged, but no injuries were reported.

The banned Babbar Khalsa outfit claimed responsibility, alleging retaliation for the killing of Ranjit Singh in Gurdaspur. A viral video showing a person pulling a grenade lever appears authentic, but officials say further investigation is needed.

Security has been tightened, and police have registered a case against unknown person(s).

The 19-year-old Ranjit Singh was among the three youths accused in the sensational double murder of an ASI and a Home Guard jawan near the Pakistan border on February 22, 2026. His encounter took place on February 25, 2026, and the family refused to do last rites until an FIR was filed. But due to the deteriorating condition of the deceased, the family performed last rites on March 9, 2026.
