MP, Kolkata, April 2, 2026: The Enforcement Directorate conducted multiple raids in Kolkata on Wednesday morning in connection with a high-profile money laundering investigation involving alleged extortion and organised crime.
Raids were carried out at the residence of Biswajit Poddar, who is accused in several extortion and criminal intimidation cases, as well as at the office of a private firm styled as Sun Group. Sources reported that officials seized over ₹1 crore from the Sun Group office. At Poddar’s residence, an improvised firearm was also recovered. Additional searches were conducted at the homes of associates linked to him.
Several cases are registered against Sona Pappu, including allegations of controlling construction syndicates and delivering extorted money to influential individuals. A few days ago, the ED had summoned Debasish Kumar over an alleged illegal land-grabbing and investment fraud case.
Sona Pappu’s name also surfaced in a recent shootout in the Kankulia Road area of Ballygunge. While multiple suspects from the involved groups were arrested, Sona Pappu remains at large.
