The Chief Minister met the bereaved family and handed the cheque to the victim’s father, expressing his condolences and assuring that due legal action would be taken against those responsible. He also interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the camp and listened to their concerns.
In a statement shared on social media, the Chief Minister reiterated that the welfare of IDPs remains a priority. He said directions had been issued to officials to address grievances and ensure timely rehabilitation and resettlement, adding that the government is committed to restoring stability and dignity to affected families.
During the visit, the Family Committee of Akampat Relief Camp submitted a memorandum seeking early resettlement, highlighting the hardships caused by prolonged displacement. Residents also called for improved security measures in their native areas, including Moreh.
Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East, L. Nivedita, stated that efforts are underway to ensure justice in the case and confirmed that the accused has been remanded in custody.
The minor, originally from Moreh, had gone missing on April 5 and was found dead the following morning. Police arrested a suspect, identified as Laishram Langamba, a resident of the same relief camp. He was later produced before a POCSO Court on April 10 and remanded to judicial custody under relevant provisions of law.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by district officials and police personnel during the visit.
