139 Tribunal-Cleared Voters Added to Electoral Rolls, Eligible to Vote in First Phase of Bengal Polls

PTI, April 22, 2026, Kolkata : The Election Commission on Wednesday said 139 people have been added to the electoral rolls in West Bengal following SIR-linked tribunal orders and will be able to exercise their franchise in the first phase of the assembly polls on April 23.

The tribunals disposed of 657 cases arising from disputes linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal said.

"All 139 voters whose names have been added following tribunal orders will be able to vote tomorrow," he said.

The opening round of the two-phase assembly elections will be held on Thursday, covering 152 of the state's 294 seats – including all 54 in north Bengal’s eight districts and several in Murshidabad, Nadia, Birbhum and Hooghly.

The Supreme Court had directed the Election Commission (EC) to issue a supplementary revised electoral roll to include the voters whose appeals against the deletion of their names were allowed by the appellate tribunals in the state.

The poll panel released booth-wise lists of eligible voters in compliance with tribunal orders, the CEO said.

The EC has also made the lists accessible through its online portal, where voters can check their status by selecting their assembly constituency and booth number or by entering their EPIC details.

The Commission uploaded two separate lists on its official website early Wednesday—one containing the names of voters whose inclusion has been approved by the tribunals and another of those who continue to remain excluded from the electoral rolls.

More than 3.60 crore voters, including nearly 1.75 crore women, are eligible to exercise their franchise on Thursday.
