R. N. Ravi Takes Oath as West Bengal Governor

KalimNews, March 12, 2026, Kolkata: Ravindra Narayan Ravi was sworn in as the 22nd Governor of West Bengal on Thursday morning at a ceremony held in the Throne Hall of Lok Bhavan.

The oath was administered by Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Sujoy Paul, in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee, senior minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, and Left Front chairman Biman Bose. Notably, no leaders from the opposition BJP camp attended the ceremony.

Ravi 73, a former IPS officer, previously served as the Governor of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tamil Nadu. He had served as the governor of Tamil Nadu since September 2021.Ravi was appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal on March 5, replacing C. V. Ananda Bose, who resigned earlier that day.

Ravi arrived in Kolkata on Wednesday evening and was warmly received by senior officials of the state government and Lok Bhavan staff. During the ceremony, the police band played the national anthem, adding a formal and patriotic touch to the event. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, along with other dignitaries, attended the swearing-in, which began at 11:30 a.m.

Before coming to Bengal, Ravi served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu since September 2021. His tenure there was marked by frequent clashes with the DMK government, particularly with Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, over several legislative bills. These conflicts escalated to the point that the Tamil Nadu government petitioned President Droupadi Murmu to remove him from office.

Despite his contentious stint in Tamil Nadu, Ravi enters West Bengal with significant experience in administrative and gubernatorial roles. His appointment marks a new chapter in the state’s political landscape.
