PM Modi Criticises West Bengal Government at Brigade Rally, Outlines Development Agenda
Addressing a large rally at the historic Brigade Parade Ground, the Prime Minister said the resolve for transformation has been firmly imprinted in the minds of the people of Bengal.
Modi unveiled a roadmap for the holistic development of West Bengal. He announced that the Union government is committed to the state’s progress and has already inaugurated developmental projects worth more than ₹18,000 crore.
In his address, the Prime Minister laid special emphasis on infrastructure development, prioritising the modernisation of railways, roads and the ports of Kolkata and Haldia to help transform the state into an economic hub of eastern India.
The Prime Minister highlighted the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’, describing it as a step towards ‘zero electricity bills’ for families. Under this scheme, financial assistance of ₹75,000–₹80,000 is provided to families to help reduce their electricity expenses.
Along with medical security through Ayushman Bharat and the commitment to provide a permanent (pucca) house for every underprivileged citizen, the Prime Minister said that fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Bengal is a key priority.
Modi alleged that several central schemes have been stalled in the state. He also criticised the state government over administrative issues and political practices.
The Prime Minister on Saturday also alleged that the ruling party opposed the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to “protect infiltrators”, claiming that illegal immigration had affected demographic balance in certain areas of the state.
He further criticised the state government over alleged corruption and recruitment irregularities, saying such issues have affected opportunities for young people in the state.
Referring to incidents such as those reported in RG Kar and Sandeshkhali, Modi said stronger law enforcement and accountability were necessary to ensure public safety.
He also accused the state government of obstructing development projects and altering the names of certain central schemes.
The Prime Minister said that restoring a stable environment and creating employment opportunities for the youth within the state remain key priorities.
He concluded by saying that his goal is to help restore the development potential of West Bengal and improve opportunities for its people.
