PIB debunks manipulated video claim regarding Defence Minister
FACT CHECK: Did Rajnath Singh support Israel’s attack on Iran?
PTI, March 03, 2026, New Delhi: The PIB clarified that the manipulated video was being shared by Pakistani propaganda accounts
The Week, March 03, 2026 : The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has debunked a doctored video circulating online that falsely claims Defence Minister Rajnath Singh supported Israel’s attack on Iran.
The PIB clarified that the manipulated video was being shared by Pakistani propaganda accounts and that Singh had never made any such statements.
"A digitally manipulated video of Defence Minister Rajnath Sigh is being circulated online by Pakistani propaganda accounts, falsely claiming that he made remarks supporting Israel’s attack on Iran," the PIB said in a post on X.
The bureau emphasised that Singh had made no such remarks and shared the original video, in which the minister can be seen addressing a completely unrelated topic. The PIB urged the public to be cautious, warning that these manipulated videos were part of Pakistan's ongoing misinformation campaign against India.
India has not endorsed the joint US-Israel operation in Iran, which resulted in the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and several senior military and security officials. However, India has refrained from explicitly condemning the attack, instead calling for peace and stability in the region. Iran’s retaliation—targeting neighbouring countries that host US military bases—has pushed the Middle East to the brink of a regional war.
Meanwhile, the Narendra Modi government’s silence on Khamenei’s killing has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, in a recent article, alleged that India’s silence in this matter was not neutral but an "abdication" of responsibility.
