Government Lifts Domestic Airfare Cap from March 23
The move comes at a time when airlines are facing significant operational disruptions on international routes due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
In the order, the ministry emphasised that airlines are required to exercise pricing discipline and act responsibly. “Airlines shall ensure that fares remain reasonable, transparent and commensurate with market conditions, and that passenger interests are not adversely impacted,” the order said.
The ministry also warned that any instance of excessive or unjustified surge in fares, particularly during periods of peak demand, disruptions, or exigencies, would be taken seriously. Airfare trends will be monitored on a real-time basis to ensure compliance.
Passengers are advised to stay updated with official notifications and book tickets through authorised channels to avoid overpricing.
