Body of missing boy recovered from pond in Sikkim
PTI, March 10, 2026, Gangtok : The body of a 14-year-old boy, who had been reported missing, was recovered from a pond in Sikkim's Gangtok district, police said on Tuesday.
The minor's family lodged a complaint at Singtam Police Station on Monday evening, claiming that the boy had been missing since the morning, a senior officer said.
Following the complaint, the police initiated a search operation in and around the Shantinagar locality and the Rani Khola river belt, he said.
During the search, a pair of slippers was recovered near a pond adjacent to the river.
"A team comprising divers was engaged in the search operation. The boy was found in the pond at a depth of around 10 feet and was taken to the Singtam District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead," the officer said.
The police registered an unnatural death case at Singtam Police Station, and legal formalities were carried out to hand over the body to the deceased's family, he said.
An investigation is underway, the officer added.
