Major Success for Mal Bazar Police Station: Child Rescued from Bihar

KalimNews, February 17, 2026, Kalimpong:  In a major achievement, the Mal Bazar Police Station has successfully rescued an innocent six-year-old child from Purnia district in Bihar. The police acted swiftly, tracing and bringing the child back home safely within just 24 hours. According to reports, the child had been sold for ₹30,000, and thanks to the relentless efforts of the Mal Bazar Police, the child was reunited with their family.

The case began on February 12, when the child went missing from the Hindi School area of Odalabari Gram Panchayat. Despite the family's best efforts to search for the child, they were unable to find any leads. In response, the child’s mother, Duggi Sahani, filed a written complaint with the Mal Bazar Police Station.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police immediately began investigating the case with urgency. Early in the investigation, suspicion fell on local residents Kunal Kumar and his wife Priyanka Khatun. Through mobile phone call details and information gathered from local sources, the police were able to confirm that the child had been sold to Suresh Singh, a resident of Purnia, Bihar, for ₹30,000.

As soon as the police had this information, a special investigation team from Mal Bazar Police Station departed for Purnia on Saturday night. With the help of local authorities in Bihar, they successfully rescued the child and arrested the accused, Suresh Singh. Kunal Kumar and Priyanka Khatun were also taken into custody. The trio was later presented to the Jalpaiguri District Magistrate.

In a statement, Roshan Pradeep Deshmukh, the Police Officer in Charge of the Jalpaiguri District, praised the police’s swift action. “The moment we received the complaint, we prioritized the case and began our investigation. Within a short period, we confirmed the child had been sold for ₹30,000, and thanks to quick action, we were able to rescue the child safely.”

The police are now investigating whether a larger trafficking network was involved in this case, with further questioning of the accused underway. Despite the shockwaves caused by the incident in the community, local residents have expressed relief and gratitude for the police’s timely intervention.

The rescue operation stands as a powerful example of how coordination, urgency, and dedication can prevent tragedies, protect innocent lives, and combat human trafficking. It also underscores the importance of taking every missing child case seriously. Every child deserves to be safely returned home, and every family deserves closure.

The police and the parents have thanked social activists like Raju Nepali of Duars Xpress Mail, and numerous trusted sources to make the rescue operation a success. Their timely support made the quick recovery of the child possible.

The child’s family can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that their loved one is safe. The police have vowed to continue investigating to uncover any potential links to larger human trafficking networks, and the investigation remains ongoing.

This remarkable rescue highlights the essential role of law enforcement in protecting vulnerable individuals and preventing crime. The community, too, has been reminded of the importance of vigilance and cooperation in the fight against human trafficking and child exploitation.
