Company Registrations in Bengal Up 106% Since Mamata Took Office

Pradip Chatterjee, MP, 14 Feb 2026, Kolkata: The number of companies registered in Bengal has increased by 106% since Mamata Banerjee became the Chief Minister in 2011. The ruling Trinamool Congress claimed that the number of companies with registered offices in Bengal as of 31 March 2010 stood at 1,21,496, while on 31 July 2025, the figure had risen to 2,50,343.

“In plain terms, since Smt. @MamataOfficial assumed office, the number of companies with registered offices in Bengal has grown by 106%,” the Trinamool Congress said in a post on X. The data suggested that around 1,28,847 new companies registered their offices in Bengal over 15 years. The ruling party also clarified that this is not data from the West Bengal government but figures placed before Parliament by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

“The numbers speak for themselves. Now, @BJP4India can go cry in a corner about it,” the party further posted on X.

The BJP’s campaign portraying Bengal as “industry-averse” has been challenged by Central government data, which stated that 44,040 companies were incorporated in Bengal in the past six years, while only 1,742 companies shifted their registered office from Bengal to other states. The data showed that about 7,500 companies have been registered every year in Bengal during this period. Between 2020 and 2025, over 40,000 companies were incorporated.

The Trinamool Congress alleged that the BJP has run a campaign for years to paint Bengal as “industry-averse,” but the Central government data contradicts this narrative. “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bengal has witnessed a wave of development the BJP can’t match. So, they resort to peddling lies, half-truths, and propaganda to hide their own miserable record,” the party said.
