Bengal BJP MLAs Hold Strategy Meeting for Upcoming Assembly Elections

PTI, Kolkata, February 3, 2026 : BJP MLAs in West Bengal held a closed-door meeting on Tuesday to discuss strategies for their campaigns ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, according to a party legislator.

The meeting took place in the room of Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari in the assembly, and senior BJP leader Biplab Deb was also present. Deb has been appointed as the BJP's 'saha prabhari' (deputy in-charge) for the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections.

"Approximately 60 legislators attended the 50-minute meeting, where we were instructed to conduct outreach programmes in our respective constituencies. The MLAs were urged to stay active in the field 24x7. Deb was informed about how the TMC government has been obstructing our efforts to carry out development work in our constituencies," the BJP legislator said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

He further added that all internal reports indicated a "massive erosion of support for TMC."

"We have been directed to focus on issues like corruption, the deterioration of law and order, and TMC's role in creating chaos under the guise of protesting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) across Bengal," the BJP legislator explained.

He also noted that the party had been instructed to raise awareness about the ruling party's efforts to intimidate Election Commission (EC) officials.

During the meeting, Deb reviewed the situation with the MLAs and Adhikari. He reassured the legislators that, with their full dedication and support, the BJP would ensure that the people's dissatisfaction with Mamata Banerjee and her government would be reflected in the voting machines (EVMs).

"I have been entrusted with the responsibility of Bengal at this crucial moment, and I have never failed in any of my previous assignments. With your involvement, we will succeed," Deb, the former Chief Minister of Tripura, told the BJP legislators.

BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul, who was also present at the meeting, refused to elaborate on the details but confirmed, "The state’s situation and the issues to be raised were certainly discussed. Given the significant erosion of support for TMC, we are confident that we will secure a massive majority after the polls. Biplab Deb asked us to begin our efforts from today."

When asked about the discussion on BJP tickets, she clarified, "There was no talk of BJP nominations at the meeting, as that decision will be made by the party's top leadership. All the MLAs were asked to focus on the work for the upcoming assembly elections. This was not the appropriate forum to discuss ticket allocation."

The BJP legislators were present for the inaugural day of the budget session on Tuesday, with the House adjourned until Thursday morning after the obituary reference. The customary governor’s address before the vote-on-account will be held on 5 February. The session will continue until 9 February, marking the last session before the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections.
