Mamata-led TMC Delegation to Meet Election Commission on Feb 2
According to sources, the Commission conveyed the appointment to Banerjee through a written communication. The delegation will include TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and several Members of Parliament. Mamata Banerjee has been permitted to lead a 15-member delegation. Additionally, a few family members of those allegedly affected by what the party has termed “Special Intensive Revision (SIR) panic” may accompany the group.
Banerjee had earlier planned to visit Delhi on Wednesday to stage a national-level protest over issues related to the SIR of the voter list in West Bengal, after addressing a public meeting in Singur, Hooghly district. However, she postponed the visit following the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash. She also cited the Anandapur fire incident as another reason for the deferment.
The SIR process began in West Bengal on November 4. Since then, TMC has alleged that the exercise is being carried out hastily and without adequate planning, causing unnecessary harassment to citizens. The party has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of colluding with the Election Commission to remove legitimate voters from the electoral rolls.
Banerjee has written multiple letters to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar highlighting various problems related to the revision of the voter list.
