Kolkata Police Probe I-PAC Raid, Seize CCTV, DVR and Visitor Records
Investigation continues into alleged document theft from Pratik Jain’s residence and I-PAC office
Agencies, Kolkata, 11 January 2026: Kolkata Police have intensified their investigation into the alleged theft of documents from the residence and office of Pratik Jain, co-founder of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), following raids carried out by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) earlier this week.
As part of the probe, police officials on Saturday visited Jain’s residence and seized CCTV footage and the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) from the premises. The visitor register of the housing complex was also confiscated. Statements of household staff and security personnel were recorded, and the facility manager of the complex has been summoned. Investigators are examining whether the ED officials made any entries in the security register on the day of the search. Sources noted that officials of the central agency had not recorded any entries in the register.
The ED officials had entered Jain’s residence at 6.20 am on Thursday and remained there until 2.50 pm. Kolkata Police officers arrived later, between 11.15 am and 11.20 am. Investigators are analysing the CCTV footage along with recordings from body cameras worn by some police personnel who were present at the location. Efforts are also underway to formally ascertain the identities of the ED officials involved in the operation.
Police sources stated that investigators are likely to question Jain, his wife, and his mother if required. Statements of three security personnel have already been recorded, and several other individuals, including residents and security staff, have been summoned for questioning. In addition, police are attempting to identify six Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel who were deployed to provide security to the ED team during the operation. An email will be sent to the CRPF Eastern Sector office to obtain their details.
The probe follows complaints lodged by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. As chairperson of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), she filed two separate complaints on Friday against the ED in connection with the raids. The first complaint, registered at the Shakespeare Sarani police station, concerns the alleged raid by unknown ED officials and central force personnel at Jain’s Loudon Street residence. The second complaint, lodged at the Electronic Complex police station under Bidhannagar City Police, relates to the raid at I-PAC’s Salt Lake office.
Banerjee alleged that the raids were politically motivated and constituted a vendetta against the Trinamool Congress. She claimed that the operation aimed to seize party-related data and documents held by Jain, who heads the TMC’s IT and media operations. Acting on her complaints, Kolkata Police and Bidhannagar City Police registered FIRs and initiated investigations into the matter.
“Our officers have found that the search conducted on Thursday was led by an ED assistant director, accompanied by others of assistant officer rank. We are preparing to send an email to the ED seeking the identities of those officers,” a police officer said.
Investigators are continuing to examine all seized materials, including CCTV footage, DVR recordings, and the visitor register, as well as statements from staff and security personnel, to ascertain the full sequence of events.
