Upon receiving the distress call, local authorities, including Reang Police and NHIDCL workers, quickly launched a rescue operation to retrieve the victims from the accident site. Two passengers were declared dead at the scene, while eight others were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The two passengers who tragically lost their lives at the accident site were identified as:Tushar Barman (S/O Lt. Mihir Barman) of Bhuskabanga, Mahadev Danga II, PS Maynaguri, District Jalpaiguri. and Sumit Mali (29), S/O Manik Chandra Mali of Burdwan Police Line, as identified by his mother Surelamati Mali.
Additionally, one of the injured passengers succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The deceased was identified as Ram Bahadur Chhetri, son of Indra Nahadur Chhetri of Rangpo, Sikkim.
The other passengers who were injured in the accident were identified as follows: Goutam Roy (33), S/O Khirendra Nath Roy of Gourchandi, PS Kotwali, District Jalpaiguri; Nima Sherpa (36), S/O Lt. Dawa Sherpa of Debidanga, Champasari, PS Pradhanagar, District Darjeeling; Anuj Kumar Prasad, S/O Majisteer Prasad of Singtam Bazar, Sikkim; Subuj Baran Ghosh of Sriniketan, Bolepur, PS Santiniketan, District Birbhum ; Sagar Sharma (Driver), S/O Narad Sharma of Bara Fapri PO Salugara, PS Bhaktinagar, District Jalpaiguri.
However, two of the injured passengers remain unconscious, and their identities have yet to be determined as they are unable to provide any information. Efforts are ongoing to ascertain their details.
Out of the eight injured, Ram Bahadur Chhetri, one of the victims from Rangpo, tragically passed away later in the night at NBMC (North Bengal Medical College) Hospital in Siliguri. His injuries proved fatal despite efforts to save him.
The remaining seven injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment at NBMC Hospital in Siliguri, and their conditions are being closely monitored. The driver, Sagar Sharma, was taken to Siliguri District Hospital for further treatment and is currently admitted there in stable condition.
The Reang Police and local rescue teams worked swiftly to evacuate the passengers from the vehicle, with support from the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL). An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are also ensuring that all necessary medical support is provided to the surviving victims.
The accident has shocked local residents, and the police are continuing to monitor the health status of the injured as they recover.
