HC Orders WBSSC to Publish 2016 'Untainted' Group C and D List by Dec 8

MP, Dec 4, 2025, KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) to publish the list of “untainted” candidates for the 2016 Group C and D recruitment process by December 8. Justice Amrita Sinha passed the order on Wednesday while monitoring the ongoing compliance regarding the 2016 school recruitment process.

Earlier, the court had instructed authorities to submit the details of all candidates who were appointed after the expiry of the 2016 panel’s tenure. On Wednesday, the court reiterated that the names of candidates who are “untainted” — meaning those who have no allegations against them — must be published with full particulars before the deadline.

This order comes at a crucial time, as the WBSSC is currently accepting applications for fresh recruitment to Group C and D posts. The original deadline for submitting applications was December 3, but it has been extended to December 8.

In 2016, the Supreme Court had ruled that candidates who were eligible at that time should be given age relaxation to apply in the new recruitment cycle. Justice Sinha noted that the publication of the untainted list was necessary to ensure that eligible candidates from the original 2016 process could benefit from the age relaxation and apply for the 2025 examination.

According to the WBSSC, there are currently 2,989 vacancies for Group C posts and 5,488 vacancies for Group D. The court has already directed that no “ineligible” or tainted candidates will be allowed to sit for the upcoming examination.
