Gorkha Development Council Introduces New Skill Training Initiative for Young Women in Assam


BIKASH CHETRY, EOI, GUWAHATI, NOV 30, 2025 :  The Gorkha Development Council (GDC) has taken another important step to help the new generation of the Gorkha community move towards self-reliance. The council today launched a fresh round of skill development programmes aimed especially at young Gorkha women in Assam. The programme was held under the Skill Development Training Programme of the GDC, Government of Assam.

GDC Chairman Prem Tamang attended the inaugural session of the new Make-Up Artist training course, which has been started to give young women better access to practical skills and job opportunities. Speaking at the event, he said the council would continue to support Gorkha youths in every possible way. “We want our young people to stand on their own feet,” Tamang said. “Skill training is one of the most powerful ways to open new doors for our community. Our aim is simple; every young person should have the chance to learn, grow and earn with dignity.”

During the programme, Tamang also handed out certificates to trainees who successfully completed the Assistant Electrician and Field Technician – Air Conditioner courses. He said these technical courses were helping many youths find steady work in different parts of the state. “The Gorkha community has always been hardworking,” he added. “All we need to do is give our youths the right training at the right time. The council is fully committed to creating more such opportunities in the coming months.”

The event was attended by Dr Kulashree Nath, Honourable Member-Secretary of the Gorkha Development Council, Government of Assam, along with several other council members. They appreciated the efforts of the trainees and encouraged more young women to join similar programmes in the futur
