Three militants arrested in Manipur
A 53-year-old active cadre of the banned People's Liberation Army was apprehended from the Malom Makha Leikai area in Bishnupur district on Tuesday, and unaccounted cash of Rs 3.25 lakh was recovered from his possession, a senior officer said. Another member of the outfit was also arrested from his residence at Keibul Awang Thana Leirak in the district, he added.
One cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Nongdrenkhomba) was apprehended from a rented house at Langol Housing Complex in Imphal West district, the officer said.
Meanwhile, security forces on Tuesday recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the Nachou Kha Mamang Patton area in Bishnupur district. Security forces have been conducting search operations in Manipur since ethnic violence broke out two years ago.
More than 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence between Meiteis and Kuki-Zo groups since May 2023. The Centre had imposed President’s Rule in Manipur after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned. The state assembly, which has a tenure till 2027, has been put under suspended animation.
