Temporary Closure of Hume Pipe Bridge Amid Rising Water Levels
The Hume Pipe Bridge was built as a temporary solution following the collapse of the old Dudhe Bridge on October 4, caused by heavy rains. The rising water levels now pose a risk to both the bridge and the safety of vehicles crossing it. Authorities have confirmed that the bridge is still functional but are closely monitoring the situation. Police have been deployed on both sides of the bridge to ensure that traffic is regulated, and safety measures are being enforced.
Tourists and locals have been advised to avoid travel until conditions improve. The local administration has warned residents to stay alert and has issued a precautionary notice regarding the possibility of landslides in the area.
To support vulnerable populations, several relief shelters have been set up in Mirik, including at the Mirik Bazaar Community Hall and other locations such as Soureni, Nandulal Gaon, Thulung Gaon, Bahadur Gaon, and Duptin. A control room has been established at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's office, and disaster management teams have been mobilized to provide assistance.
