The directive came from Justice Amrita Sinha, who, during a hearing on Thursday, instructed the WBSSC to make public all OMR sheets related to the recruitment exams for Classes IX–X and XI–XII teachers. Justice Sinha emphasised that transparency in the recruitment process was essential, particularly in light of previous concerns about irregularities in the process. She pointed out that the delay in releasing the OMR sheets could lead to doubts about the integrity of the entire recruitment process.
The court’s decision follows the Supreme Court's directive that all cases related to the WBSSC’s recruitment process be heard by the Kolkata High Court. This development came just a day before the hearing in which Justice Sinha questioned the WBSSC’s legal representatives about the delay in releasing the OMR sheets.
The judge was particularly critical of the fact that, despite the Supreme Court’s involvement, the WBSSC had failed to provide the necessary documentation in a timely manner. Justice Sinha remarked, “Why haven’t you uploaded the OMR sheets? The recruitment is being carried out as per the Supreme Court’s order. There should have been transparency from day one. Otherwise, there could be accusations of irregularities later on.”
Along with the instruction to release the OMR sheets, the court also ordered the WBSSC to make public the list of candidates who were issued appointment letters despite the expiration of the 2016 panel. This order further underscores the importance of maintaining transparency in the recruitment process, especially concerning candidates who were hired after the panel's validity period had expired.
In line with these instructions, the court has mandated that the names of these appointed candidates, along with the OMR sheets, be made available on the WBSSC's official website by the stipulated date of December 10. This is seen as a crucial step towards addressing concerns about fairness and transparency in the teacher recruitment process, which has been a source of controversy in recent years.
The Kolkata High Court’s ruling comes at a time when the WBSSC is under close scrutiny due to past allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process. The court’s directive to release the OMR sheets and appointing a clear deadline for this task is expected to reassure candidates and the public that the process is being handled with due diligence and transparency.
