Explosion Near Red Fort Metro Station: 12 Dead in High-Intensity Blast Linked to Terror Network

Agencies, New Delhi, November 11, 2025 : In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through the national capital, a blast tore through a white Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort Metro Station at approximately 6:50 PM on November 10, killing at least 12 people and injuring more than 20 others. The explosion, which occurred near the traffic light close to Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort, is now being linked to a larger terror plot. CCTV footage from the Red Fort parking lot, captured just minutes before the explosion, has shed light on the events leading up to the deadly blast.

The chilling video, lasting just over a minute, shows the vehicle—bearing the registration number HR 26CE7674—waiting in a queue to reach the toll booth at 6:22 PM. The driver of the car can be seen extending his hand to collect what appears to be a parking ticket or receipt from the booth staff. While the man in the driver’s seat remains largely obscured throughout the footage, there is a brief moment when he tilts his head towards the booth, seemingly awaiting change. It is unclear from the footage whether any other passengers were inside the car.

The explosion, which occurred just under 30 minutes after the footage was recorded, has claimed the lives of nine individuals on the spot. As the investigation progresses, three additional people have succumbed to their injuries, bringing the death toll to 12. Authorities are now working to identify the perpetrators behind the attack, with initial reports linking the car to a terror network operating out of Jammu and Kashmir.

Vehicle Tracked Across Multiple Locations Before Blast

According to Delhi Police sources, the vehicle involved in the explosion was tracked by CCTV cameras in multiple locations before it reached the Red Fort area. It was first spotted in Darya Ganj, then passed through Kashmere Gate and near Sunehri Masjid before arriving at the parking lot adjacent to the Red Fort. The car entered the parking lot at 3:19 PM on November 10 and remained there for over three hours, finally exiting at 6:48 PM, just before the blast occurred.

The vehicle’s owner has been identified as Dr. Umar Nabi, a 36-year-old medical professional from Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. Dr. Nabi, who completed his MBBS at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar in 2017, is believed to have been killed in the explosion. Investigators have linked him to the terror organizations Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), a faction of al-Qaeda. Dr. Nabi was reportedly part of a terror module operating in both Faridabad and Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier on the same day, raids were carried out in Faridabad, Haryana, where police discovered a large cache of explosives—2,500 kg of IED-making material—at a rented property linked to Dr. Nabi’s associate, Dr. Muzammil Shakeel. Shakeel, also a medical professional, is believed to have worked alongside Nabi in the Faridabad region.

Terrorist Network and Investigations

The attack, which has been described as a high-intensity blast, has raised concerns about the growing threat of terror activities in the region. Following the explosion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the site, where teams from the Delhi Police Special Cell, Crime Branch, National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were deployed. Shah assured the public that all possibilities were being investigated, and authorities would leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice.

A case has been registered by Delhi Police at Kotwali Police Station, with charges under sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), as well as relevant sections of the Explosives Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to trace additional suspects connected to the incident.

Alert Issued Across Multiple States

In the wake of the attack, security forces have been placed on high alert in New Delhi, Mumbai, and several other states. The police chiefs of Haryana and Gujarat have issued public appeals urging citizens to report any suspicious activity, while also asking the public to avoid rumors and rely only on verified information. Police in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Bihar, which is set to hold elections in the coming months, have also ramped up security measures.

Meanwhile, three suspects from Pulwama, Tariq Ahmed Malik, Aamir Rashid, and Umar Rashid, have been apprehended by Pampore Police in connection with the blast. The investigation is continuing, with authorities trying to determine the full extent of the terror network involved.

This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the threat posed by terror organizations operating in the region. The blast has not only claimed lives but has also shaken the sense of security in one of Delhi's busiest and most iconic locations, the Red Fort area.

As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge, and the authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
