Ex-Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Suspended Amid Corruption Allegations

MP, November 8, 2025, Kolkata: Akhtar Ali, the former Deputy Superintendent of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, who had previously raised allegations of corruption against the hospital’s former Principal, Sandip Ghosh, has been suspended following corruption charges against him. Ali, who had accused Ghosh and others of misconduct after a rape-murder incident at the state-run hospital on August 9, 2024, now faces similar allegations.

An order from the Health Department on Friday outlined that Ali’s involvement had come to light during a CBI investigation, which was conducted following a directive from the Calcutta High Court. The charges against him include accepting undue favours such as air tickets from two private firms and demanding and receiving Rs 2,89,000 from two other companies in exchange for awarding them work orders at RG Kar Medical College.

Ali, who was transferred to Murshidabad Medical College and later to Kaliagunj Sub-Divisional Hospital, had resigned from his post a year ago, but his resignation was not accepted. He is now under investigation in connection with the corruption charges, which have cast a shadow on his tenure at RG Kar.
