ASSAM RIFLES LEADS MAJOR ANTI-NARCOTICS DRIVE ACROSS MANIPUR

Extensive poppy eradication operations conducted across four districts between 19 and 22 November 2025

KalimNews, Imphal, November 23, 2025 : Assam Rifles, working jointly with the Central Reserve Police Force and Manipur Police, has carried out a series of coordinated anti-narcotics operations across multiple districts of Manipur, eliminating vast stretches of illicit poppy cultivation and destroying associated infrastructure.

The operations, conducted between 19 and 22 November 2025, targeted interior and difficult-to-access hill ranges long used for illegal opium production.

On 22 November 2025, security forces destroyed approximately 15 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in the general area of Loibol Khullen in Kangpokpi district under New Keithelmanbi Police Station.

The plantation, which had the potential to yield around 107 kilogrammes of opium worth multiple crores of rupees, was cleared along with a hut, a sack of salt bags and other cultivation equipment found at the site.

The same day, forces undertook another major operation at the Gobok hill range under Chakpikarong Police Station in Chandel district, where roughly 50 acres of poppy fields were razed. Poppy pods, seeds and four temporary huts discovered at the site were likewise burned as part of the eradication effort.

Prior to these actions, on 20 November 2025, a joint team destroyed approximately 7 acres of illicit poppy plantation at Thengjang and Lasan under Tamei Police Station in Tamenglong district. Four huts, four urea bags and 107 packets of salt stored for the cultivation process were also destroyed.

Earlier still, on 19 November 2025, security personnel working with the Kangpokpi Forest Division completed an extensive clearance operation targeting poppy fields spread across six locations within the Phailengkot and Makhan hill ranges in the Koubru Reserve Forest area under Gamnom Sapermeina Police Station, Kangpokpi district. Approximately 53 acres of poppy cultivation were eradicated, and seven farm huts along with 35 packets of salt recovered at the sites were destroyed.

The sustained enforcement drive reflects ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb illicit cultivation and dismantle the supply chain associated with narcotics production in the region, in line with government directives and community standards.
