Aadhaar Shares Data of 47 Lakh Deceased with Bengal CEO
MP, Kolkata, 13 Nov 2025 : In a significant move aimed at cleaning up Bengal’s electoral rolls, Aadhaar authorities have identified and shared the details of 47 lakh deceased individuals with the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). The data was shared during a review meeting held under the direction of the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday.
Of the total 47 lakh deceased individuals, 34 lakh possessed Aadhaar cards, while the remaining 13 lakh did not. The shared information will be used for verification and help the Election Commission remove the names of deceased voters from the rolls as part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Officials indicated that this step is crucial to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the voter list. Additionally, the CEO’s office was scheduled to hold a review meeting with Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to assess the progress of enumeration form distribution. As of now, the distribution remains below 75% in 37 Assembly constituencies, and the Election Commission aims to complete the distribution by Saturday.
