Road Collapse on NH-10 Between 29th Mile and Gelkhola Disrupts Traffic, Heavy Vehicles Diverted

KalimNews, October 9, 2025, Kalimpong : A significant portion of the National Highway 10, between the 29th Mile and Gelkhola, has collapsed, causing major disruptions to traffic in the region.

Approximately three-fourths of the road has caved in, making it unsafe for vehicular movement, particularly for heavy vehicles. The collapse has led to an immediate halt in the movement of large vehicles, with only small vehicles allowed to pass through on a single-lane basis.

Currently, the road is inaccessible for traffic along the NH10 between Coronation bridge and Teesta bridge. Although small vehicles can still navigate the affected stretch, the District Administration has issued a stern warning regarding the potential for further collapse, urging the public to avoid the area until repairs are completed. Authorities have stated that the restoration work may take time.

In light of these developments, travelers are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid significant delays and inconvenience. The recommended detours include the Panbu Road and Lava-Gorubathan Road, which provide safer access for those traveling between Kalimpong, Gangtok, and Siliguri, as well as the Coronation Bridge via Teesta. Local officials are closely monitoring the situation and have requested that all residents and travelers plan their journeys accordingly to ensure safety and minimize disruptions.

The authorities have stressed that, while efforts are underway to repair the collapsed section, the situation remains fluid, and all public and vehicle owners are requested to take extra precaution while travelling through NH 10.
