Journalist Hacked to Death in Prayagraj; Main Accused Arrested After Police Encounter
Victim Identified as Laxmi Narayan Singh, Nephew of Former High Court Bar Association Chief
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya told PTI that the victim, identified as Laxmi Narayan Singh alias Pappu, a journalist by profession, succumbed to his injuries.
The main accused in the murder was arrested late on Thursday night after a police encounter in Prayagraj, officials said on Friday.
Singh, a journalist by profession and nephew of former High Court Bar Association chief Ashok Singh, was critically injured after unidentified assailants attacked him near Harsh Hotel under the Civil Lines police station area here late Thursday evening, police said.
The journalist was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon and was rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Pushkar Verma told PTI that efforts are underway to identify the attackers through CCTV footage, and police teams have been deployed to trace and arrest them.
