Former Principal Secretary of DGHC, D.T. Tamlong, Passes Away at 80
Born on February 27, 1945, Mr. Tamlong was a veteran civil servant with an illustrious career spanning over 36 years in both state and central government services. He served as the Principal Secretary of DGHC from March 2002 until his retirement in November 2005, playing a crucial role in the administration and governance of the Darjeeling hills. Prior to this, he held the position of Secretary of DGHC from January 2000 to February 2002.
His tenure in the civil services left a lasting impact on the region, with many citing his leadership and commitment to public service as exemplary.
He is survived by his wife, Amina, son Amos (Roneo), daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. His funeral service details will be shared once confirmed.
The passing of D.T. Tamlong marks the end of an era of dedicated civil service and leadership in the region. His legacy will continue to be remembered by all who knew him and worked alongside him throughout his career. In 2006, Tamlong authored the book "Darjeeling & North Bengal: From An Administrator's Perspective", followed by "Mayel Lyang and the Lepchas" in 2008 and "Darjeeling Diaries" in 2012. These works offer invaluable insights into the region's culture, history, and administration.
