GenZ Nepal Condemns Violence, Vows to Continue Peaceful National Anti-Corruption Movement

KalimNews, Kathmandu, September 9, 2025 (Bhadra 24, 2082 B.S.) : GenZ Nepal, the youth-led front of the ongoing National Anti-Corruption Movement, has issued a strong statement reaffirming its commitment to peaceful resistance despite escalating violence during Monday’s program in Kathmandu.

According to the release, unidentified elements allegedly infiltrated the otherwise peaceful protest, attempting to create chaos and undermine the spirit of the movement. However, organizers stressed that their campaign will remain firmly non-violent and disciplined, regardless of attempts to derail it.

The statement painted a grim picture of the day’s events: over 20 young demonstrators reportedly lost their lives, and thousands more sustained injuries during clashes. Organizers described these losses not as accidents but as the tragic outcomes of entrenched corruption, systemic disorder, and authoritarian tendencies gripping the country.

“We ask the government: why this silence even as the blood of Nepal’s youth is being shed? Does the state have the courage to honor the sacrifices of its own people?” the release questioned.

The organizers—Program Coordinators Purushottam Yadav and Sabal Gautam—expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased, paying tribute to the fallen youths whom they referred to as martyrs. They also extended wishes for the swift recovery of the injured.

While acknowledging the pain of the day, the movement leadership emphasized renewed determination:

  • The movement will be carried forward in a disciplined, serious, and organized manner.

  • Attempts to brand the protests as anarchic or violent will not be accepted.

  • The crackdown, they stressed, is not merely an assault on young protesters but a blow to the collective dreams of all Nepalis.

In their closing appeal, the coordinators called upon citizens across the nation to join in solidarity: “This struggle is not just ours—it is the people’s struggle. We request the heartfelt support and unity of all Nepali brothers and sisters.”

As an immediate step, the movement has announced nationwide tribute assemblies on Tuesday, Bhadra 24 (September 9, 2025) in honor of the martyrs. The release states that additional programs will be finalized and made public tomorrow morning after broader consultations.

The statement underscores a powerful sentiment among Nepal’s youth: while change may not come easily, they believe it remains within reach—and they are prepared to sacrifice for it.
