Coconut Thrown from Local Train Kills Pedestrian in Maharashtra
The coconut was apparently part of 'Nirmalya' (sacred floral offerings) being thrown into the creek, a common practice in the region. Bhoir, who was walking along the railway bridge, was reportedly heading to work. According to officials, he was using the bridge as an alternative route to reach Naigaon from Panju Island, as boat services had been suspended due to inclement weather.
A passenger aboard the local train, likely performing the religious ritual of immersing the Nirmalya in the creek, threw the coconut. It struck Bhoir directly between his ear and eye. Bhoir was rushed to a private hospital in Vasai immediately after the incident. However, the severity of his head injury led to complications, and he was later transferred to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for advanced treatment.
Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Sanjay Dattaram Bhoir succumbed to his injuries during treatment, officials confirmed.
