Attempted Intimidation of Minor Sparks Concern in Danragaon, Kalimpong

KalimNews | September 4, 2025 | Kalimpong: A disturbing incident in Danragaon of Mahakal under Bara Bhalukhop, Kalimpong, has left the local community on edge after three unidentified youths allegedly attempted to intimidate an 11-year-old boy outside his home around 11 a.m. on Wednesday .

According to the child, he was cleaning his bicycle on the roadside near his house when three masked men, one wearing a cap, arrived on a motorbike. Each was reportedly armed with objects including an iron rod, a steel pipe, and a PVC pipe. They positioned themselves at different points around the house, while one remained near the road.

The boy, who had gone briefly inside to drink water, noticed the men approaching his house. One of them threw a mud-like substance at him, which he narrowly avoided. Another struck his bicycle, prompting the boy to ask why they were damaging his cycle. In response, one of the youths reportedly remarked in broken Nepali mixed with Hindi that if he could not afford a new cycle, he should not bother cleaning the old one.

When the boy raised an alarm, one of the assailants wearing bangles allegedly slapped him across the cheek. The child, in an attempt to memorize the motorbike’s registration number, further provoked the group. At this point, one of the men produced a sprayer and tried to spray him with an unidentified substance. The boy shielded his eyes with his wrist, causing the sprayer to fall. Seizing the opportunity, the child ran into his house and locked the door. The men attempted to enter but failed, and after banging on his bicycle, they left the scene.

At the time of the incident, most villagers were attending a funeral, leaving no witnesses nearby. The boy’s father Ganesh Adhikari promptly lodged a complaint, after which the police launched an investigation. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Bhanu Rai confirmed that both manual sources and technical surveillance are being deployed to trace the suspects. He reassured the public that police are treating the case with seriousness, urging residents to remain alert without succumbing to panic.

Authorities also clarified that most missing persons cases in Kalimpong district are linked to elopement, with no active kidnapping cases currently reported. An FIR has been registered, and senior officials are closely supervising the case.

Police have further appealed to the public not to spread unverified reports. Rumors of a kidnapping linked to the Danragaon incident have been categorically denied, and officials confirmed that the minor involved is safe at home. Meanwhile, to protect the child’s identity and prevent legal complications, the viral video interview of the victim has been deleted by the individual who first uploaded it.

As investigations continue, the community remains cautious, while authorities emphasize vigilance and cooperation to ensure the safety of children and families in the district.
