Under Probe for Her Lover's Murder, Man Kills Sister on Rakhi in UP's Shahjahanpur

PTI, August 11, 2025, Jhansi (UP): A man, upset by his 18-year-old sister's relationship with a man, allegedly murdered her after they celebrated Raksha Bandhan together in the Garautha area. The body of Kumari Sahodar alias Putti was discovered on Sunday with a shaved head, found in a deserted area near Dada Maharaj platform in Chandrapura village.

Her brother, Arvind (25), and his friend, Prakash Prajapati (25), have been detained by the police in connection with the crime. The murder follows another tragedy—the killing of Putti's lover, Vishal (19), earlier in the week. Vishal's body was found on August 7 in Gudha village.

According to police reports, Putti and Vishal had run away from home four months ago, but after a mutual settlement, both families had reconciled, and things settled down for a while. However, their relationship reignited, which angered Arvind, who had just returned to the village from Pune.

Police say Arvind enlisted the help of Prakash Prajapati to kill both Vishal and Putti. On the morning of August 7, Arvind and Prakash lured Vishal under the pretext of offering him a job, then murdered him. The police registered a case based on the complaint of Vishal's father, Halkeram.

While the investigation was still ongoing in Vishal's murder, Arvind allegedly lured his sister Putti under the pretext of getting her medicine and killed her on Saturday. Both murders are now under investigation as the authorities piece together the motive and circumstances surrounding the tragic events.
