Media report suggests Nikki Bhati may have killed herself

 A new development has emerged in the alleged murder of Nikki Bhati in Greater Noida, as police discovered inflammable items in her room, suggesting a potential self-immolation angle

The Week, August 26, 2025 : In what could be a fresh twist in the alleged murder of Nikki Bhati by her husband and Vipin Bhati, a media report claims that the recovery of inflammable items from the room of the deceased has forced the police to look at new angles in the case. 

The police had said on August 21, Nikki (26) was allegedly beaten, doused with a flammable liquid, and set on fire by her husband and in-laws at their Sirsa home in Greater Noida. She succumbed to her injuries while being taken to a hospital in Delhi. 

Disturbing visuals of Nikki's final moments, including one showing her engulfed in flames, have been doing the rounds on social media. 

The videos were reportedly filmed by her sister, Kanchan. 

According to a News18 report, the police are now looking for scanning CCTV footage and videos that have surfaced after the initial phase of questioning. 

Official sources told News18 that an inflammable solution was found in Nikki’s room, suggesting the possibility of self-immolation. The substance that was recovered from the room has been sent for forensic evaluation. 

The police are also planning to re-examine the statement of Kanchan. 

Meanwhile, CCTV footage emerged purportedly showing Vipin Bhati standing at a shop near his home on August 21, the day his wife was allegedly murdered. The footage from outside a shop near the Bhati family's home shows a youth, who locals claimed was Vipin, standing behind a car and then suddenly running. 

A few moments later, he returns and hurries towards the car parked nearby. Soon after, an elderly man and several locals are seen rushing toward the Bhatis' residence, while women from the neighbourhood appear visibly panicked. 

Police said the video has been taken into account in the ongoing investigation and stressed that conclusions will be drawn only after verifying all facts. 

"It is a part of our investigation. Whatever facts come out, action will be taken accordingly. The investigation will cover all possible angles and suitable action will follow upon its completion," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Sudheer Kumar told PTI. 

Police are yet to ascertain the authenticity of the video.
