Law and Order Situation Stable and Under Control in Manipur: Governor Bhalla

PTI, Imphal, Aug. 15, 2025 : Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Friday said the overall law and order situation in the state has “improved tremendously” in recent months, adding that it is now stable and under control.

Addressing the Independence Day celebrations at the 1st Manipur Rifles ground, Bhalla credited coordinated efforts by security forces, the central and state governments, civil society organisations, and the people of Manipur for restoring peace after prolonged ethnic unrest.

“Security forces continue extensive search operations and area domination in vulnerable and fringe areas, while also checking extortion and other criminal activities. In recent months, there have been no cases of arson, death, or firing incidents,” he said.

The state has been under President’s Rule since violence erupted between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities in May 2023, leaving more than 260 dead and thousands displaced.

Security Gains and Recovery Efforts

Bhalla said movement of essential goods along highways remains unhindered, with over 3,000 arms recovered from hill and valley areas in the last six months. Large drug seizures have been made, and more than 200 people have been arrested for extortion.

Social media is being closely monitored to curb fake news and hate speech, while security has been reinforced to protect the ongoing farming season.

On the humanitarian front, the governor assured displaced persons of continued government support, noting that a tentative resettlement schedule is in place and living conditions in relief camps are under constant review.

Development Push

Bhalla highlighted progress in healthcare, with most facilities reopened after earlier disruptions. The state’s TB Mukt Abhiyan campaign won a national award. He also inaugurated a 100-bed SC girls’ hostel at Dhanamanjuri University.

The Rural Development Ministry has sanctioned a record ₹2,000 crore for Manipur’s rural employment guarantee programme this year.

Recent events, including the Shirui Festival attracting 1.7 lakh visitors and the Durand Cup, signified a return to normalcy, Bhalla said.

Concluding his address, the governor urged citizens to “rise above differences” and work together for peace and prosperity.
