Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert Across Bengal This Week
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 25 Aug 2025: The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a comprehensive weather advisory for Bengal, forecasting light to moderate rain and thundershowers across both North and South Bengal districts over the coming days, with isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in certain areas.
North Bengal Forecast
August 25
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely at most places in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar districts, and at many places in the remaining districts of North Bengal. Heavy rainfall (7–11 cm) is expected at one or two places in Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are also likely in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar.
August 26–28
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places across all districts of North Bengal.
August 29
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely at most places in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar districts, and at many places in the rest of North Bengal.
South Bengal Forecast
August 25
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely at many places across all districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) may occur at one or two places in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Bankura, Jhargram, and Purulia.
August 26–27
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely at many places across all districts of South Bengal. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) may occur at one or two places in North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, and Jhargram.
August 28–29
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places across all districts of South Bengal.
Advisory
Authorities have urged residents in both North and South Bengal to remain cautious during thunderstorms, particularly in areas prone to heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, and gusty winds. Farmers, too, have been advised to take necessary precautions to protect standing crops from damage.
