PTI | July 22, 2025 | Imphal: Seven militants were arrested from different parts of Manipur, police said on Tuesday.
Three members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) were apprehended on Sunday from Pangal Basti in Tengnoupal district. They were identified as:
Khumanthem Umakanta Singh (36)
Pukhrambam Naoton Singh (22)
Soibam Bargil Meitei (23)
On Monday, four cadres of the proscribed United People's Party of Kangleipak (UPPK) were arrested from Koirengei Chingol Leikai in Imphal East district. Those arrested were:
Nishan Ngangbam (24)
Laishangbam Roshan Singh (35)
Chungkham Kiran Meitei (21)
Chandam Ratan Meitei (41)
Police said all the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting local businesses. The arrests were made based on specific intelligence inputs.
Meanwhile, a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered in Kangpokpi district on Monday. The recovery was made during an operation conducted in the villages of Tingkai Khullen, Maohing, and Changoubung.
The recovered items include:
1 INSAS rifle with magazine
1 .303 rifle
1 lathode
1 .32 pistol with magazine
4 bolt-action rifles
1 M16 rifle
1 MA1 assault rifle
1 sniper rifle
1 .32 bore pistol
7 single-barrel rifles
4 hand grenades
Police said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb militant activities and ensure law and order in the state.
