Skeleton Discovered in Locked Siliguri House Believed to Be Missing Sikkim Woman; DNA Test Ordered for Confirmation
KalimNews | June 27, 2025 | Siliguri : A shocking discovery unfolded in the quiet neighbourhood of Pabitra Nagar in the Devidanga area of Siliguri on Thursday afternoon, when police recovered a human skeleton from a locked and abandoned house, believed to belong to a woman missing from Sikkim for the past several months. The skeletal remains were found inside the bedroom of the residence during a joint operation carried out by the Sikkim Police and Pradhan Nagar Police Station, acting on a significant lead in a months-long missing person investigation.
The woman, identified as Pasang Doma Sherpa, was a schoolteacher from Namchi in South Sikkim. According to police sources, Sherpa had been reported missing by her son approximately six months ago. The Sikkim Police, pursuing various leads during their investigation, discovered that Sherpa had relocated to Siliguri following the death of her first husband. She had reportedly remarried—a man from Bihar—and settled in a house she had purchased in the Devidanga area. Since August of last year, however, there had been no trace of her.
Acting on this information, a team from the Sikkim Police travelled to Siliguri and, in coordination with their counterparts at Pradhan Nagar police station, reached the property in question on Thursday. Upon finding the house locked, police broke open the door and conducted a search, which led to the grim discovery of skeletal remains inside one of the rooms. Although initial suspicions point to the remains being those of Pasang Doma Sherpa, police officials have emphasized that a definitive identification will only be possible after DNA testing.
The recovered remains have been sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for forensic examination, including an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death. Authorities are treating the case with seriousness and have launched a full investigation to ascertain whether foul play was involved. Meanwhile, the incident has sent ripples of concern through both the local community in Siliguri and Sherpa’s hometown of Namchi, where residents await further updates and confirmation.
As investigations continue, police officials have assured that every effort is being made to bring clarity and justice to the case.
