Man Detained in West Bengal for Alleged Involvement in Fatal Domestic Dispute

The man was found walking around holding a severed head of a woman,

The incident occurred in the Basanti area, where the individual, identified as Bimal Mondal, was spotted behaving suspiciously in a local neighborhood. According to law enforcement, concerned residents contacted the authorities, prompting immediate action.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that a conflict had broken out between the man and his sister-in-law, Nita Mondal, while they were in a public area,” a senior police officer said. "Suddenly, the accused took out a chopper and started hitting the woman. During that assault, he severed her head," the police officer said, adding initially they suspected that the crime took place late Friday night. The accused then took the severed head and the chopper started walking through the streets in the locality, he said, adding that the locals spotted him, and a few also videographed him walking with the severed head. “The situation escalated, and she suffered fatal injuries during the altercation.”  

The officer further stated that after the incident, the suspect approached the local police station voluntarily, holding the severed head and the weapon he used to kill the woman. Authorities have seized the item for forensic examination and sent the victim’s body for a post-mortem to confirm the cause of death.

Investigators believe the dispute may have been related to a long-standing family property issue. Police are continuing their inquiry to determine the full circumstances surrounding the case.
