2,500 Kg of Banned Fireworks Seized Near Airport; Smugglers Nabbed

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, June 13, 2025, Kolkata : In a major crackdown on illegal explosives, the Airport Police have seized approximately 2,500 kilograms of banned fireworks from the vicinity of Gate No. 1 of the city’s international airport. Acting on a confidential tip-off, law enforcement intercepted a cargo truck that was reportedly transporting the contraband under the guise of cold drink supplies.

According to police sources, the banned fireworks were meticulously concealed within the truck, which was marked as carrying beverages. Upon inspection, officers discovered the concealed explosive materials, prompting immediate action.

Two individuals suspected of involvement in the smuggling operation were initially detained at the scene. Following preliminary investigation, both were formally arrested.

The police have launched further inquiries to trace the supply chain and identify the source and intended recipients of the banned materials. Authorities believe the consignment may have been part of a larger network involved in the illegal distribution of hazardous materials.

The use and transportation of such fireworks are prohibited under safety regulations due to their potential risk to public safety, especially in high-security zones like airports. Law enforcement officials have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict surveillance and urged the public to report any suspicious activity.

Further legal proceedings are underway.
