Trinamool Leader Arrested After Allegedly Shooting Security Guard in Nadia
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, May 19, 2025, Kolkata : A Trinamool Congress leader has been arrested after allegedly shooting his own security guard during an altercation at his home in Nadia district. The accused, Sajizul Haque Shah, also known as Mithu, serves as the vice-president of the Karimpur No. 2 Block Panchayat Samiti.
The incident occurred on Sunday night when Mithu, reportedly intoxicated, began a heated argument with his family and later turned violent toward his bodyguard, Jahangir Alam, a constable with the state police. According to sources, the altercation escalated, and Mithu allegedly attempted to shoot Alam. The bodyguard managed to escape the scene, and the bullet fired by Mithu hit the door of the residence. Despite the close call, Alam was unharmed and made his way to the police station to report the incident.
Authorities at Thanarpara Police Station responded quickly to the scene and arrested Mithu. During the arrest, police recovered three firearms and eight rounds of ammunition from his possession. Local sources have suggested that this may not be the first time Mithu has been involved in such violence, as he is said to have attacked one of his bodyguards in a similar manner approximately six months ago.
Police have initiated an investigation into the origin of the firearms and ammunition found in his possession. The arrested leader, however, denied any wrongdoing, claiming that he was the victim of a conspiracy and had no involvement in the shooting. He was presented before the Tehatta Subdistrict Court on Monday, and authorities are expected to continue the investigation. A resolution is anticipated within a week, as the investigation unfolds
