KalimNews with inputs from IPR, Gangtok, May 26, 2025, Gangtok :  Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Sikkim on May 29, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) placed three crucial demands before the Centre during the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog held in New Delhi on Saturday. The demands, as shared by information and public relations officials, include climate-proofing of National Highway 10, which suffered severe damage during the South Lhonak Lake flood; development of a world-class highway connecting Siliguri to Sikkim to strengthen strategic and economic connectivity; and support for a multimodal corridor and integrated check post at Chewa Bhanjyang to enhance cross-border trade and regional cooperation.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also presented ‘Sikkim Vision 2047’, a long-term developmental roadmap focused on sustainability, village-led growth, a green economy, and global partnerships. This vision aligns closely with the national objective of Viksit Bharat 2047. He expressed confidence in the Centre’s continued support and extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister, hoping the visit would further strengthen the vision of a developed India by 2047.

Chief Minister Tamang emphasized that Sikkim aims to significantly grow its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and become India’s first Green Capital and Green Destination. This vision is rooted in sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth. Key focus areas outlined include village-led development, green agriculture, improved regional connectivity, and enhanced collaborations with ASEAN and East Asian nations. Youth empowerment also formed a significant part of the CM’s address, with initiatives such as the Institute for Transforming Sikkim (ITS) aligning with NITI Aayog’s goals. Flagship programs like SEED (Sikkim Entrepreneurship and Economic Development) and INSPIRES are designed to equip the youth with global skills and ensure job readiness. Sector-specific academies are being established to meet evolving market demands.

The Chief Minister also highlighted Sikkim’s notable progress in organic farming, clean energy, and waste management. He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to India’s renewable energy targets through the continued expansion of hydropower and solar energy initiatives.

Preparations are currently underway in Sikkim and in Alipurduar, North Bengal, to welcome the Prime Minister and ensure the smooth execution of his official engagements and public interactions. As per official sources, PM Modi is tentatively scheduled to land at Bagdogra Airport at around 10:00 a.m. on May 29 and will travel by helicopter to Libing Helipad in Gangtok, arriving by 10:45 a.m. After attending various programs in Sikkim, he is expected to leave Gangtok at around 1:00 p.m. for Alipurduar, reaching there by 2:00 p.m. The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend official programs in Alipurduar between 2:15 and 2:45 p.m., which will include laying foundation stones and launching new projects. Chief Minister Tamang also attended the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting held in New Delhi on Saturday, which was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting saw the presence of BJP National President J.P. Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, other Union Ministers, Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states, and senior leaders from constituent parties.

Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister, Mr. Tamang acknowledged the unwavering support and guidance extended by the Central Government, particularly during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters. He praised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership as truly exemplary. Reflecting on the transformation of the North-East since 2014, the Chief Minister noted that under Modi’s dynamic leadership, the region has received unprecedented attention and development. He remarked that the regular visits by Union Ministers demonstrate the Centre’s sincere commitment to the region’s progress.

Mr. Tamang further stated that the North-East, once viewed solely as a political platform, has now emerged as a hub of growth and development, with Sikkim witnessing substantial progress across multiple sectors. As the state celebrates the Golden Jubilee of its statehood, the Chief Minister extended special thanks to the Prime Minister and the BJP’s senior leadership for their continued goodwill and support. He concluded with a message of unity and collaboration, saying, “Let us continue moving forward together, striving for greater heights and shared success.”
