Operation Sindoor: Shashi Tharoor-led delegation to visit US, Panama, Colombia and Brazil

The team will showcase India’s fight against cross-border terrorism in the wake of Operation Sindoor.

The Week, May 19, 2025 : An all-party delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will begin its multi-nation tour on May 24 to showcase India’s fight against cross-border terrorism in the wake of Operation Sindoor.

The team will visit Guyana, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, and the United States.

Tharooor said the delegation’s visit to the US is scheduled at the final stage, after the Memorial Day weekend, to ensure optimal engagement with the Congress.

“Our delegation is leaving a bit later because the US has a big Memorial Day weekend, and Congress in the US is not in session until June 2. So, there is no point in arriving there too early,” he said.

The Thiruvananthapuram MP, however, skirted questions on some opposition parties’ objections to the government’s choice of MPs for the delegations.

"I am absolutely not getting into that subject," he said.

The Congress had recommended Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Nasir Hussain and Raja Brar to be part of the delegation.

Tharoor, however, was quick to accept the nomination, saying he would not be found wanting when national interest is involved.

"I am honoured by the invitation of the government of India to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals, to present our nation's point of view on recent events,” he said.
